From a very young age I knew that something was fundamentally wrong with the network & customs I was being raised with. CASTLE 350 unites multiple threads and begins to resolve a lifelong investigation into the history of our culture in developed "Western" places (for me, England and New England) by exploring the history of the town of North Kingstown, Rhode Island. Of 100 copies printed, 50 were sent to subscribers of the Community Supported Art (CSA) through Binch Press/QAW studio & zine library in Providence, RI. Several copies remain available. The Roman calendar is not going away anytime soon, but it does not have to be the only calendar framing our lives. I developed and printed a Seven Seasons calendar in response to my intuitive experiences of moving through the year. The calendar development process is converging with my research on education approaches to transition our modern lives to sustainable practices that cut pollution and support community health. The Seven Seasons I identified by refelcting on my relationship with the environment through the year coincide quite nicely with a “non-calendar based reckoning” system known as “Modern mid-latitude ecological reckoning.” My COLORHODEISLAND pages are also organised by this calendar.
